The Beautiful Path

Psalm 119:32 I run in the path of your commands for you have set my heart free
How lovely it is that God can speak to us and that we can “run in the path of his commands.”
How lovely it is that Jesus gave us many teachings and that, by running in that path, we can ensure the freedom of our hearts while we live on earth.
This has nothing to do with becoming religious or legalistic; it has to do with being a child of his kingdom and behaving in ways that line up with kingdom life and kingdom culture. It has to do with wisdom: learning how to respond in different situations and different events so that we maintain the freedom that Jesus won for us on the cross – so that our consciences are clear and that we do not fall into the entanglements of sin and personal disgrace.
We are all on a life journey.
Jesus told us that we walk the narrow path, and it is narrow because it does not deviate through indecision and confusion. It is a clear path that we walk because there are signposts along the way. Those signposts are the Word of God and the teachings of Jesus, wise words to show us that the right choices will keep us on the beautiful path of freedom. It IS a beautiful path that we tread because we are never alone. The Holy Spirit within us is always teaching us and guiding our feet in paths of righteousness.
The righteous path is not about becoming religious and pious, it is about making the right choices at the right time; about relating to others in ways that bring life and healing. This is an exciting path, because it has been mapped out for us before the beginning of time. It’s an exciting journey because it saves us much heartache, pain, disappointment and disillusionment. On this path we know in our hearts that all things are working to our good, because we hear the call and we know we are on track.
We see Jesus ahead of us, leading us and we sense that one day soon, he will turn around and we will look into his loving eyes and melt in that love. In the meantime, we align our ways to his ways by walking the pathway that is set before us – and doing that in such a way that our hearts are set in freedom.
We do not become entangled on the popular and broad way of this world; nor do we submit to the alluring temptations that this world brings our way. We fix our eyes on Jesus, the author of our faith. We treasure the thought that eternity will be spent with him, and that the path we tread towards our heavenly goal is one of freedom and joy.
My prayer for you today is that your feet would find this lovely, narrow and beautiful path and that your footsteps would follow his imprints until the day the path reaches its glorious end.
My Daily Agreement
It’s God’s desire that I lead a humble life that is healthy, simple, uncluttered from the hurts of the past, unhindered from sin, disentangled from people and things, free from selfish ambition, free from anxiety and stress – following Jesus, loving and being loved – and filled with his grace and kindness – excited at the thought of the future.
